The Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise divorce is pretty much the hugest news right now, even though it’s not really surprising to anyone (in fact, I find it more surprising that they made it five years). But it turns out that there may be even less reason to be surprised: in an interview for Elle magazine that Holmes gave a few weeks ago, the former Dawson’s Creek star seems to hint at big changes coming, saying that she’s entering a “new phase” of her life.
In the interview, Katie Holmes says, “I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out… I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase.”
When asked about her identity as Cruise’s wife, she adds, “He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years. I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.”
Katie Holmes also reveals it’s more difficult to find work after being in such a high-profile relationship, adding, “Things are not handed to anyone. If anything, you work a little bit harder when you’re in such visible circumstances.”
Now, I don’t think that Katie Holmes was purposefully dropping hints about her impending divorce, but it’s interesting to see where her mind is at and what may have led her to decide to end her marriage.
