A few weeks ago the exciting news was announced that Harry Potter author JK Rowling would be releaseing a new, non-Potter-related adult novel. Now the author has revealed the title of her new book along with the synopsis. The novel, which will be published on September 27th, will be called The Casual Vacancy, read a short blurb about the novel’s plot below:
“When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war…Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils… Pagford is not what it first seems….
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?”
Interesting…this is obviously a big departure for JK Rowling but the plot does sound intriguing and Rowling is a fantastic storyteller so I have no doubt that this will be a wonderful novel. Even if it isn’t it’s sure to sell extremely well with Rowling’s name on it. Will you pick up a copy of The Casual Vacancy when it’s released in September?
