Many reviews of the new film My Week With Marilyn, starring Michele Williams as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, say how fully Williams has been able to embody the tragic star. However, there are a few things about Monroe that Williams couldn’t identify with when it came time to become the actress, namely her legendary tardiness. Michele Williams Marilyn Monroe says that she couldn’t understand how the star could be so “disrespectful”.
She tells CNN‘s Piers Morgan, “I was curious about that because I didn’t really identify with it. How can a person be so, in a way, disrespectful of the other actors and crew people that you’re working with?”
But Michele Williams Marilyn Monroe goes on to say that after a few days of going through the lengthy hair and makeup process to become the Hollywood legend she could understand why Monroe was always so late.”
She continues, “After about three days into week one I realized exactly how. When you spend three-and-a-half hours sitting in hair and make-up and then are required to transmit a kind of energy and vibration that makes people feel like you’re sort of existing to give them pleasure… to put all that out on a consistent basis is exhausting. By Thursday I had a pretty good sense of maybe one of the reasons that she wouldn’t want to get out of bed and go to work.”
