Shocking news! The role of Bella Swan in the Twilight series was almost played by Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachetenberg, but Michelle Trachtenberg Buffy kept her from taking the part due to scheduling conflicts. We bet that Trachtenberg, whom we like to refer to as The Trachtenhoffer, (Why? We have no idea…just roll with it.) was SO FUCKING PISSED ABOUT THAT.
When the first Twilight film was in it’s earliest production stages, the actress was approached by a casting agent for the lead role of Bella Swan. The Trachtenhoffer was already attached to another vampire project at the time: she was starring as Sarah Michelle Gellar’s annoying little sister on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Because of schedueling conflicts she had to pass on the part, which then went to Kristen Stewart. Stewart was a relative unknown at the time but her role in Twilight has catapulted her into the celebrity stratosphere (and gotten her Robert Pattinson‘s love).
Speaking about the fact that Michelle Trachtenberg Buffy role kept her from saying yes to Twilight, The Trachtenhoffer tells UsMagazine.com, “I was actually supposed to star in that (Twilight), but I was on Buffy at the time… I’ve known (director) Catherine Hardwicke since the movie Thirteen… I guess schedules never worked out.”
The Trachtenhoffer puts her popularity for vampire projects down to her complexion: “There’s only so few pale girls in Hollywood.”
