Studio executives behind new superhero reboot The Amazing Spider-Man have confirmed plans to extend the franchise into a trilogy. Anyone surprised?
(Cricket sounds)
Nope.
The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, smashed U.S. box office records by raking in $35 million during its opening day on this week. Due to the success, executives have announced that the new film will be the first in a three-part series.
A post on the movie’s official Facebook page reads, “It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.”
A release date for the sequel has been tentatively set for May 2nd, 2014.
